Microsoft Security updates

It is time for another Microsoft update, and all Microsoft servers will need to be rebooted for the security measures to take effect.

Library Web Server problem

At approximately 8:35 this morning there were problems accessing the Library web Page. the exact cause has not been identified as of yet but the website is up and running.

H drive update and reboot

The H drive will be rebooted at 11:30 this morning for maintenance. The server should be up approximately 5 minutes later

Snowy problems

After a Microsoft update and reboot snowy/track-it/intranet the server had problems rebooting. the system is back up and running. sorry for the inconvenience.

Web server interuption

Approximately 10 minutes ago the access to the web server was down. This is due to a spam attack involving the library's internal mail system that resides on the same server. As a result of the action needed to fix the problem the web server was temporarily down. currently also services are running safely. If you notice any problem please call the help desk

Snowy problems

Due to the addition of a new Microsoft update snowy was experiencing problems starting windows, this is the reason for Trackit and the intranet net responding. the issue has been reslove and you should notice everything back in order.

Microsoft update and reboot

A reboot will occur this morning to all library servers including the web server the outage should be no more than five minutes

Blog server hardwarechange and upgrade

The original blog server libapps has been replaced by a server that has been sitting in reserve while the operating system is upgraded from Red Hat Linux 7.2 to fedora core 5(Linux). The intent is to eliminate some of the issues that we have been seeing over the last few months. The first stage has already been completed, but it is necessary to wait so that I can monitor performance of the replacement server before purging the original server. The upgraded libapps will be known as blog or blog.library.temple.edu. I expect the entire process to be completed no later than 9/7/2006

Millennium Release 2006 Installation on Garnet

Installation of Millennium Release 2006 on Garnet has been completed by close of business Friday afternoon, August 4, 2006.

Snowy going down at 10:45 a.m. on 7/19/06

To resolve issues with Snowy and WINGSS, LS&T will reboot Snowy at 10:45 this morning. The server, and all related services should be back up by 11:00 a.m.

Normal Diamond Searching Restored

The unfortunate situation in which default searches from various points in Diamond were returning results only for the Law Library has been resolved. The quickest and cleanest way to address the situation was to proceed immediately to changes previously described by Byron in his e-mail of 6/22, and originally scheduled for July 1st, in which "the default search in the catalog for most users will be 'View entire collection'" and would "replace the current default 'All locations except Law' for all locations except Law and Rome." Subsequent to these changes, which derive from IP-range determined opac logins, a number of individual Diamond screens had to edited to completely remedy the situation. Should the previous behavior be discovered when using a particular screen or search in Diamond, please notify Systems immediately.

]]> The problem derived from the addition of a new scope for "library depository" to our existing scope table. It is standard practice for Innovative to add new scopes to the end of this table, giving the new scope the next unused scope number in the table (this is different from where, or if, a scope displays in listings on a webopac screen, which is determined elsewhere). For reasons as yet undetermined, Innovative placed the scope at position 20, in the *middle* of the existing table. As a result, the previous scope 20, "Law Library," moved down to position 21, previously held by our default scope, "All Locations except Law." Even after clearing the default scope from most opac logins, there were still some Diamond search pages, such as the Video/DVD search, that were hard-coding the scope as number 21 and these also had to be identified and corrected.

Innovative later reviewed the details attached to our request to add the depositary scope and at this point its placement at position 20 appears to simply be a mistake on their part.

The VRLplus server upgrade is being conducted now 07:35 06/06/06 ( don’t let the date scare you) until completion. Expect intermittent service until the upgrade is complete.
