WINGSs Deploy
Overnight on April 18th, WINGSs Deploy will automatically update itself on all staff computers.
WINGSs Deploy provides LS&T the ability to install new software, upgrade existing software, and install patches remotely overnight. It allows this to be scheduled so that it will not interfere with staff work.
The installation should occur overnight with no human intervention needed. If, for some reason, it was unable to run overnight, it will run the first time someone logs onto that computer.

Houston, We Have Review Files
Today, 160 new review files with a combined capacity of 2.5 million records are available on the Diamond and Garnet systems. Staff now has access to 320 review files with capacities of from 1,000 to 500,000 records.
The new files (161-320) may be found immediately after the older group of files (1-160, of course) and are sorted from smallest to largest capacity. They will be interfiled at a later date, most likely over the summer after the Kardon move is complete.
The files were added to accommodate the work on the Kardon move and the new books/featured list projects, but should facilitate the work of everyone who uses these files in the future. The count is configured to provide more files of the sizes we use most (3,000-5,000) while increasing the number of available very-large-capacity files. We have doubled the number of 100,000-record files (to eight), tripled the number of 250,000-record files (to three), and added one file that will hold a half-million records. The colorful chart (below) gives the full breakdown of what we had, what was added, and what we have now.

Finally, note these two things:
1) Interfiling will require a brief interruption of review file availability as they must all be emptied prior to doing so. We will give plenty of repeated notice well in advance of that change.
2) You as a user still have a responsibility to keep the review file area usable for your colleagues. Select the smallest file possible before you create a list. Save your complex search strategy for easy retrieval should a list prove inappropriate for the file. Don't create a list until you're ready to work with it, finish your work as soon as possible, and empty the file as soon as you're done.
3) The Review File Purge Procedures (PDF) will be updated for math (20% is now 64 files), but otherwise will not change.
Feel free to approach anyone in LS&T with questions in this regard.
