Diamond Review Files Purge
We will be purging the Review Files in Diamond on January 5, 2006 according to our purge procedure.
The procedure is located at [http://snowy.lib.temple.edu/systech/documentation/]. This document details the naming guidelines and the criteria used to determine which review files will be emptied. Please empty any review files that you have created that are no longer needed.
For the remaining files, on Thursday, January 5th, around 9 a.m., all review files meeting the criteria listed in the Procedure document will be emptied. (For possible exceptions, read the document).

AirPAC Installation
AirPAC, the text-based catalog interface and one of the new Tech Fee projects, will be installed on January 9, 2006, first on Garnet, then on Diamond. No downtime will be required for the installation. Once installed, AirPAC will be active. It wil just be a matter of telling people about it and pointing to it.
Two ports have to be opened in the firewall in order for this to work from off campus. The CSO (Telecomm's version of a WINGSS Work Request) to get that done went in Tuesday 12/20, with a heads up to the ofice of the CISO, who will have to approve. Hopefully, that will be done by the time Innovative finishes (so they can test) and before we're ready to announce (just after the beginning of the semester so that it doesn't get lost in other events).
You can see other AirPACs at work at Baylor University and California State University at Long Beach. Just point any browser that way, including the one on your mobile phone.

Classroom 130 Availability
Earlier this semester, the classroom was blocked off for the month of December pending disruptive work by Telecomm Network Services (TNS). This work, installation of several new ethernet jacks, was requested in July 2005 and is required to complete one of last year's Technology Fee funded projects, the upgrade of the User Ed Classroom.
Work was supposed to have commenced Thanksgiving week. It did not and has not, and I have not received notification from TNS regarding when it will begin (despite now daily requests for information).
To keep options open for getting this work done in a timely manner -- TNS has a tendency to say they're coming when they're en route -- I'm keeping the room officially blocked off on a week-to-week basis.
It works like this: the room is available through next Monday (12/12). If I don't hear anything from TNS on Monday, 12/12, then it is available that entire week through the following Monday (12/19) (inclusive). Likewise, if no news on 12/19, then it's available through 12/26 (yes, I know, holiday..let's just keep is simple). I will update Kenneth Fullman with the status each week. You should contact him for scheduling of room 130 as you normally would.
The week between Christmas and New Years will be dealt with at that time, as that would be a likely candidate for the work if we don't hear from them earlier. What if it hasn't happened and we haven't been given a workable date before January 2006? We'll deal with that situation should it arise.
I realize this is not an ideal situation for anyone. Woody is ready to roll out the new computers as soon as the TNS work is verified complete, so we really are waiting for them.
Thank you for your patience in this regard.

Libraries Web Server Problem
The Libraries web server experienced a database error after the reboot this morning. The MySQL database on the weblog server failed to restart on bootup, causing the home page to fail to load. All other pages loaded as they should, and all other servers including Diamond and Blog were functioning properly.
This issue is now resolved. Much thanks to Keith Savage and Phil D'Andrea for their work locally and remotely in getting things back.
